Our doors will be open on Friday 20th May 2011 between 17.30 and 21.00, and on Saturday 21st May 2011 between 11.00 and 19.30.

A fresh and active group of young people called ‘milia’, has in the last three months organized a highly successful programme of experiential workshops on the theme of education, the creative results of which will be exhibited this Friday and Saturday at the Nicosia Municipality’s ‘Peace’ Venue.
‘Milia’, which was set up last September as an informal group of young volunteers from the fields of education, youth work and civic society groups, worked with great enthusiasm to organize the four weekend sessions of interactive workshops for 12-18year olds, funded by the European programme ‘Youth in Action’. The workshops took place on 19-20 February and 12-13 March in Nicosia, on 27-28 March in the village of Galata and on 16-17 April in Limassol.
The theme of all workshops was the basic right of each person to an education which responds to their needs, and which promotes a democratic society where all people receive respect but also respect the rights of others.
Facilitated by Cyprus Youth Council trainers who employed non-formal learning methods such as creative activities, discussion groups, teamwork and media, beneficiaries explored in depth their own learning styles and experiences as well as their education as a human right. They made recommendations on how to improve the educational experience in our country, as well as short movies on the theme, inspired too by their discussions with individuals who had experienced global education first hand.
The young people’s feedback has been overwhelmingly positive – claiming that the experience had left them feeling enriched in their self-esteem, empowered and inspired by the understanding and perspective gained on education. Organizers have said that the ideas of these young people will feed into future ‘milia’ activities, having seen how much they have to say about, and can contribute to, a healthier model of education.
Believing that it is crucial that the broader public hear the voices of youth on the ‘Right to Learn’, milia volunteers will exhibit the wonderful collages, innovative proposals and powerful short films produced by the participants of all four workshops.

Έκθεση για το ‘Δικαίωμα στην Εκπαίδευση’ από την ομάδα μηλιά

Μια φρέσκια και δυναμική ομάδα νέων ανθρώπων που ονομάζεται μηλιά, οργάνωσε και εφάρμοσε τους τελευταίους τρεις μήνες ένα επιτυχημένο πρόγραμμα βιωματικών εργαστηρίων, το δημιουργικό αποτέλεσμα των οποίων θα
παρουσιαστεί σε μια έκθεση αυτή την Παρασκευή και Σάββατο στην αίθουσα ‘Ειρήνη’ στη Λευκωσία.
Η ομάδα ‘μηλιά’, η οποία ξεκίνησε τον προηγούμενο Σεπτέμβρη ως μια άτυπη ομάδα νέων εθελοντών από τους χώρους της εκπαίδευσης και της κοινωνίας των πολιτών, εργάστηκε με ενθουσιασμό και οργάνωσε τέσσερα διήμερα διαδραστικά εργαστήρια για νέους 12-18 χρονών, τα οποία χρηματοδοτήθηκαν από το ευρωπαïκό πρόγραμμα ‘Νεα Γενιά σε Δράση’. Τα εργαστήρια έγιναν στις 19-20 Φεβρουαρίου και 12-13 Μαρτίου στη Λευκωσία, στις 26-27 Μαρτίου στο χωριό Γαλάτα και στις 16-17 Απριλίου στη Λεμεσό.
Το θέμα των εργαστηρίων ήταν το βασικό δικαίωμα του κάθε ανθρώπου σε μια εκπαίδευση η οποία θα ανταποκρίνεται στις ανάγκες του και θα προάγει μια δημοκρατική κοινωνία όπου όλοι τυγχάνουν σεβασμού αλλά και σέβονται τα δικαιώματα των συνανθρώπων τους. Υποβοηθούμενοι από εκπαιδευτές του Συμβουλίου Νεολαίας που χρησιμοποίησαν μεθόδους μη-τυπικής μάθησης, όπως δημιουργικές δραστηριότητες, συζητήσεις και
ομαδικές δραστηριότητες, οι νέοι συμμετέχοντες εξερεύνησαν το προσωπικό μαθησιακό στυλ και τις εμπειρίες τους, αλλά και την εκπαίδευσή τους ως ανθρώπινο δικαίωμα. Οι νέοι έκαναν προτάσεις για το πώς θα μπορούσε να
βελτιωθεί η εκπαίδευση στη χώρα μας, καθώς και μικρές ταινίες πάνω στο θέμα, εμπνευσμένες και από την επαφή στα εργαστήρια με άτομα τα οποία είχαν προσωπική εμπειρία της παγκόσμιας εκπαίδευσης.

Η ανταπόκριση των συμμετέχοντων ήταν πάρα πολύ θετική – υποστηρίζοντας ότι η εμπειρία αυτή τους προσέφερε μια καλύτερη κατανόηση και μια νέα οπτική της εκπαίδευσης και ενδυνάμωσε την αυτοπεποίθησή τους. Οι οργανωτές δήλωσαν ότι οι ιδέες των συμμετεχοντων δείχνουν ότι οι νέοι μας έχουν πολλά να πουν και να
προσφέρουν για ένα υγιέστερο μοντέλο εκπαίδευσης και θα είναι ένα σημαντικό συστατικό στη διαμόρφωση των μελλοντικών δραστηριοτήτων της μηλιάς.

Πιστεύοντας ότι είναι πολύ σημαντικό να προωθήσουμε στο ευρύτερο κοινό τη φωνή των νέων για το ‘Δικαίωμα στην Εκπαίδευση΄, η ομάδα μηλιά θα εκθέσει τα ομορφα κολάζ, τις καινοτόμες προτάσεις, και τις δυναμικές ταινιούλες μικρού μήκους που δημιούργησαν οι συμμετέχοντες στα τέσσερα εργαστήρια.

Η έκθεση θα είναι ανοιχτή την Παρασκευή 20/5/2011 17:30-21:00 και το Σάββατο 21/5/2011 11:00-19.30 στην αίθουσα του δήμου Λευκωσίας ‘Ειρήνη’ στο τέρμα της Λήδρας.
